Happy Thursday, everyone. We’re flying fast into fest season, so we have a lot of events coming up. I’ll try and get them all added to our calendar as we go, but in the meantime, here are some highlights for you.
Tomorrow is First Friday, which always means lots of fun events downtown. Mother’s Brewing Company has their First Firkin Friday tomorrow starting at 6pm, but make sure you get there early so you can get in line for the beer. Enoch’s will also be there to feed your face. This month’s beer will be Oktoberfest-inspired, and there will be games and more in the backyard.
Also tomorrow, The Brown Derby Wine Center will be hosting their weekly complimentary beer tasting from 4-7pm featuring Eric Carter, who is one of the most valuable resources for beer knowledge in the city. Not sure what they’ll be sharing, but you can be sure it’ll be good.
Oktoberfest in the Ozarks will be on September 13th this year, so pull up your lederhosen and come along. We’re off to enjoy great beer, local music, and local food. It’s $5 at the gate, and kids 15 and under get in free.
- Live music from the Garbonzos, The Detectives, Dirtfoot, and The Ben Miller Band.
- Local food from Firelight Pizza, Hormann Meat Company, Farmer’s Gastropub, and Benissimo Gelato (which may be a good idea because it’s looking like it may be hot that day).
- Local beer in the form of your favorite Mother’s brews, including Old School Oktoberfest, Peach Fuzz, Wit’s End, a Belgian Apricot Ale, a Dunkel, and many, many more.
Everything gets starts at 2, but the gates open at 1:30, so get their early with your blanket, chairs, and whatnot. It runs until 8pm, but then the party just moves over to…
Finnegan’s Wake, where the Official Oktoberfest in the Ozarks Afterparty will continue at 8pm with 18 Mother’s beers on tap and live music from Jesse and the Rippers. It’s $5 to get in unless you have your wristband from the daytime fest, in which case you get in free.

As if one Oktoberfest was not enough for you, Sertoma has created their own out at the Ozarks Empire Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday, September 19th-20th. It’s called the 1st Annual HOTO Sertoma’s Oktoberfest, and it is jam-packed with fun, including live music, beer, and The Alpine Goodwill Games on Saturday. The event runs from 5pm until midnight on Friday and from noon until midnight on Saturday. It’s $5 to park, $5 to enter, and you MUST be 21 or over to enter. Proceeds benefit non-profits benefitting local children. For more information, visit hotosertomaoktoberfest.com.
What’s that? Not enough Oktoberfest for you? Well, that’s OK. Macadoodles has their own. It’s on September 27th from 1 to 4pm and it is appropriately named Mactoberfest. It’s $10 to get in with over 70 beers to sample, and all proceeds benefit the Lost & Found Grief Center. They will also have live music from the Norman Jackson Band.
Well, with all of this Oktoberfest stuff going on, it only seemed appropriate that Mother’s and the Moxie Cinema would choose BeerFest as their final Friday Flix in the backyard this year. Join the mother’s crew on a misadventure through the seedy underbelly of drinking competitions all while enjoying your own suds. $5 gets you in and the show starts at 8, so don’t be late. Bring your own blanket or chair, and leave the food and beverages at home, because Mother’s will have that part covered. 21+ only, please.
