What’s on Tap! 6/19/2014

There are quite a few fun events coming in in Southwest Missouri in the next few weeks.  From bond-burning parties to a night at the movies, your local craft beer scene is looking like a lot of fun.

First off, note that every Friday, there is a complimentary beer tasting at the Brown Derby Wine Center from 4-7 pm.  It’s a good way to check out some new beers and pick up some beer for the barbecue this weekend.  You know the one.  Next week’s (June 27th) will feature The Thirsty Pilgrim, Joe Stange, who will be hosting a Belgian Beer tasting, as he has co-authored two books about Belgian beer: Around Brussels in 80 Beers and The Good Beer Guide to Belgium.  That one will be a good time, for sure.

On June 20th, Mother’s Brewing Company is expecting some guests from KC to arrive on a bus.  The “Bus to Mother’s 2014” is coming to town, and your Mother’s wants to give them a warm welcome.  If you’re around, head out to their tasting room that day and meet a few fellow beer lovers from KC.

Check out Springfield Brewing Company this Saturday at The Farmer’s Market of the Ozarks.  Sample their brew or sip on some suds while purchasing your produce.

Springfield Brewing Company will also be welcoming the members of the Springbike Bicycle Club to their brewery this Saturday AM following their Queen City Ride for some breakfast.  Check out the club at springbike.org.

On June 22nd, The US World Cup Team squares off against Portugal at 5:00pm.  You can watch at any number of venues, including such favorite soccer venues as Skinny Slims Pub and Springfield Brewing Company.  Mother’s is also hosting a watch party at the Gillioz Theater.  Their party starts at 4pm and the game starts at 5:00pm.  Comment below and let us know where you’ll watch the game this Sunday.

On June 23rd, Springfield Brewing Company will host the Unimax Pub Run at their brewpub.  The registration begins at 6:30 and the ride begins at 7:30

On June 27th, Mother’s and The Moxie Cinema will present Friday Flix: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.  The classic adventure through gonzo journalism and insane drug abuse should pair nicely with the Grow Cukes not Nukes.  Come in costume, but leave the drugs at home.  Oh, and leave the kiddies at home, too.  It’s 21+ only.  $5 gets you in, and the show starts at 8:30 pm.

Leaky Roof Meadery is throwing a Bond Burning Festival at their meadery in Buffalo, Missouri on July 12th.  Doors open at 1:00pm, and there will be plenty of local music, Ozarks barbecue, and plenty of mead.  Tickets are $15 on the day of the event, but you can get yours for $12 by buying them ahead of time at Kaleidescope, Stick it in Your Ear, or Mr. Eddies Headies.  You can also get them online at the Meadery’s website or at the meadery.  They aren’t on sale yet, though.  I’ll let you know when they are available, or you can just RSVP to the event on Facebook and they’ll let you know when tickets are available.

The music lineup includes Marcus Chapman & Brandon Moore, Cindy Woolf & Mark Bilyeu and their band, Lyal Strickland and the Moonlight Farmers, Scott Shipley and the Model Prisoners, and a few others.
