The Rundown #14

As the weather cools for a couple of days, the beer releases are warming up a bit.  With SGF Craft Beer Week under our collective belt, we still have some things to look forward to.

White River Brewing Company wants you to know their patio is nearly done.  It is slated to open on September 5th, but that is tentative and depends on a lot of variables.  They’ve been playing in their brewhouse with a lot of new ideas, including adding fruit to their White Creek Wit.  They’ll be especially for tasting room visitors, so I’ll keep you updated on when they’ll be available.  What fruit would you like to see in their Wit?  Comment below.

Leaky Roof Meadery is expecting to launch their line of meads in cans in August.  It should be early to mid-August.  Look for the Berry Picker and the Cyser for sure.  If you’re in Arkansas, I’ll bet you see a lot more of them.

Tallgrass Brewing took gold at the World Beer Cup in the IPA division with their Ethos IPA.  If you haven’t had a chance to try it, Tallgrass is the featured beer at Finnegan’s Wake in August.  I’ll bet you can find it on tap there.

Core Brewing Company has a new seasonal coming out this week.  Look for their Raspberry Lager to hit shelves and your palate by the weekend.

Deschutes isn’t messing around right now, either.  They’re introducing three new beers to our market this week:

  • Foray – A new release from their Bond Street Series, the Foray is a Belgian-Style IPA loaded with citrus hops and with a Belgian yeast that leaves some apple and pear in the beer.
  • Black Butte Reserve XXVI – Big Porter.  Big, Big Porter. 10.8% ABV, cocoa nibs, pomegranate, molasses, and cranberries.  Oh, and aged for 6 months in bourbon barrels.
  • Conflux 3: Doppel Dinkel Bock – What a silly name, you might think.  Well, yes.  It is silly, but it means a 10.5% ABV beer made with spelt (that’s where the dinkel comes from).  Look for some bubblegum aromas with banana, clove, citrus, and some spice.  A collaboration with Distelhauser.

Southern Hops’pitality from Lazy Magnolia is now out and about in six packs.  The Backwoods Belgian is coming soon.  It’s a Belgian Golden Ale brewed with Honeysuckle.  I’ll bet they didn’t have a hard time finding enough for the beer.

Watch for Boulevard Brewing to release the Smokestack Seasonal, Two Jokers Double-Wit soon.  It’s a big witbier with cardamom, coriander, orange peel, lavender, and grains of paradise.

Want to try a really small-batch beer?  Head to Mother’s Brewing Company on Friday for their First Firkin Friday.  This week, they’ll have a Blueberry Mandarin Summer Wit.  Outside, you can check out Smokin’ Wheels BBQ before you go hit the Artwalk.  Make sure you get there early.  The tasting room opens at 4, but the firkin is tapped at 6.  Be there early or miss out entirely.

Watch on Thursday for our What’s on Tap! post.  We’ll discuss some beery First Friday events as well as some other upcoming events.
