The Rundown #2

Welcome to The Rundown! This is a weekly source for beer events in Springfield. If you have an event you would like to submit for the rundown, email us at sgfbeerbuzz [at] gmail [dot] com and we’ll do our best.

Thursday, April 15th:

  • Small batch cellar sale is at Springfield Brewing Company’s Cellar every Thursday from 4-7 PM. You can pick up a 24 pack of their small batch beers at a discounted price of only $30. Better still? You can just drive up and they’ll load it up and you can pay with a card on the spot. Nice, huh?
Joe Dillstrom is playing Friday Night in Mother’s Backyard.

Friday, April 16th:

Saturday, April 17th:

  • Eighth Annual Tour De Crawdad is Saturday in Mother’s Backyard. A crawfish boil, cycle race, and live music all in one venue. It’s too late to register for this event, sadly, but it’s going to be a fun event nonetheless.
  • BEER RELEASE: Chug Brunch by Mother’s Brewing Company is being released on Saturday. It’s a NEIPA with Pineapple, Coconut, and Lactose. It’s meant to be consumed fresh, so get it ASAP.
  • Dallas Jones is really making the brewery rounds this weekend, as he’s playing at Mother’s Barrel House from 7-9 PM. A bit of folk and rock goes well with beer, especially newly release NEIPAs.
  • If mixing fitness and chugging beer is your thing, you can get involved in The Classic Beer Mile Championship Series at Springfield Brewing Company this Saturday. You run a mile, chugging a beer between each quarter mile. You can’t run until you’ve finished. Competitors who vomit before the race is over get an extra lap at the end. Starts at 11 AM if you’re interested in running or just watching the show.

Next Week:

The Homebrew ZOO meets next Tuesday, April 20th at 7:30 PM at The Homebrewery in Ozark, Missouri (image from their Facebook)
  • Sunday, 4 by 4 brewing is hosting Beer & Yoga (Boga) at their brewery. It’s $15, it’s an hour long, and you can feel like you earned that beer. Gentle Vinyasa Flow and a pint of beer. It’s a full hour from 11 AM to 12 PM. Seating in the brewery opens back up at 12:15 PM, too.
  • Tuesday, join the Homebrew ZOO for their monthly meeting. You don’t have to be a member, just a fan of beer and brewing. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM and is in person (outdoors) at the Homebrewery in Ozark, Missouri.
  • Also Tuesday is Taco Tuesday at Springfield Brewing Company, where they will be debuting Pineapple Express, a Hazy IPA with pineapple. It’s a limited release, and they are tapping the ONLY KEG Tuesday. 6 packs are available to-go.

Things we’re watching for:

  • Big Brew Day is May 1st all over the country, but you should be at The Homebrewery in Ozark, Missouri. Outdoor event, where homebrewers come out and demonstrate how to brew. Beer samples will likely be available, as will food. Also, you can start brewing by learning a few tricks and picking up some equipment while you’re there.

May be an image of taco, indoor and text that says 'SAGNAL LOST AGNA BREWING LUAU RIB TACOS APRIL 5TH 10TH'
Lost Signal Luau Rib Tacos look like they would go well with a beachy IPA. Just sayin’. (Photo from their Facebook)

Before we get into the future, we should acknowledge that Lost Signal Brewing Company has released a new beer this week, Beach Party IPA, and they are having fun stuff all week, like Luau Rib Tacos special that runs until the 10th. Beach Party IPA is a pineapple and coconut IPA, which sounds like it would be mighty tasty with some tacos.

Friday, April 9th:

  • Hold Fast Brewing Company will host Sarah Loethen from 7-9 PM this Friday night.
  • Tie & Timber – SGF favorite Jimmy Rea will play starting at 7:30 PM. Jimmy is multi-talented and puts on a super fun show.
  • Mother’s Brewing Backyard – Alyssa Galvan plays from 6-8 PM. She’s a 15 year old singer/songwriter from SWMO, and the word is she’s got serious talent.

Saturday, April 10th:

  • Lost signal Brewing Company is having a beach party on Saturday. Games, food specials, beer, and live music from Deja Crew starting at 6:30 PM.
  • Mother’s Brewing Barrel House – MeadowMaker will play from 6-9 PM. You should check this out for no other reason than he describes his music as Forest Bathing Rock — Music inspired by Earth | Wonder | Nostalgia | Realization.
  • 4 by 4 Brewing Company – Dillon Leggett is playing from 6-9 PM.
  • Hold Fast has Isaac Kenneth Saturday from 7-9 PM.
  • Tie & Timber – Sparkles O’Beine will be playing from 7:30-10.

Next week:

  • Monday night is Chess Night at Tie & Timber. A casual evening of chess in the taproom. All levels welcome, as it’s just for fun.
  • Tuesday night at Hold Fast is Jazz night with MOJO LITE. “Every Tuesday come and enjoy the Missouri Jazz Orchestra at Hold Fast Brewing!” 7-9 PM.
  • Taco Tuesday at Tie & Timber – T&T teams up with Team Taco for tasty tacos. And nachos and bowls and such. Runs from 2 PM until about 11 pm, so just go when you’re hungry or thirsty. They’ll also have a new collaboration brew with Lost Signal that day. It’s Kick’n with The Jinx, and it’s a Double Hazy IPA.
  • Next Wednesday is Trivia Night at Hold Fast Brewing Company. Trivia starts at 7 PM, hosted by Eric S.

Further out, but on the radar:

The 8th Annual Tour De Crawdad is in Mother’s Backyard on April 17th. This is an annual charity bike ride that benefits Champions Committed to Kids. You can go for a 25, 40, or 60 mile ride or you can just come hang out and eat crawfish cooked by The Cajun Cooker. If you’re not big on shellfish, you can always have a hamburger, too.

Tie & Timber Beer Company 3rd Anniversary Shebang! is on May 1st starting at noon. Acts include the Shandies, MarleyGrass, Rea, Moore, Newman, and The Hook Knives. They’ll also be releasing several beers that day. Stay tuned.

Under Construction

Hey! We’re back and working on some new features, hoping to get some great profiles going, and renewing the Rundown and What’s On Tap! for your enjoyment.

There’s going to be some slow starting here, but since the site has been dormant for a couple of years, we need to spin some things up. I’m currently working on a heat map of sorts using the Untappd API that will allow you to see where the most recent check-ins are happening across the city, but that may be a little bit away.

In the meantime, I’ll start getting some Rundown posts ready for you and hopefully a feature article or two about some of the local breweries.

Do you have something you want us to cover or an idea for a local beer feature or a widget for the site? Let us know. We want to make this site a great go-to for all things local beer in 417 land.
